When a young couple realizes their home is being haunted by some sort of entity, they set up a camcorder in their bedroom as they sleep to capture the eerie occurrences that take place when the light go out. In this surprise blockbuster hit, first-time director Oren Peli builds tension extremely well throughout the film. The demonic spirit residing in the home might just be flick on lights and moving doors by the inch at the beginning, but when all is said and done Peli delivers some genuine creepy moments as the characters slowly descend into madness. Despite the Hollywood ending, “Paranormal Activity” is a refreshing break from the torture porn that usually plagues this genre.
