Justin Bieber: Never Say Never

While it’s not as in depth as “This is It,” the 2009 posthumous documentary on Michael Jackson, “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” is a surprisingly entertaining look at the life of a young musician at the pinnacle of his phenomenal career. Sure, his music is specifically for members of the tween demographic, who wouldn’t know a good lyric if it was braided into Bieber’s Beatles bob, but the concert portions of the film aren’t as overbearing as one might think. This isn’t a “concert movie” as much as it is a likeable examination of stardom on the shoulders of a 16-year-old boy. It still feels like a marketing tool at times, but there are enough insightful elements (including a nod to the power of social media) to make Bieber feel like more than an over-produced brand name with purple high tops and hair.
