In the dark indie drama “Animals,†Bobbie (Kim Shaw) and Jude (David Dastmalchian) are a young couple that exist somewhere between homelessness and the fantasy life they imagine for themselves. Living in their broken-down car parked alongside Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo, they masterfully con and steal in an attempt to stay one step ahead of their addiction until they are ultimately forced to face the reality of their situation.
I had a chance to talk with star and writer Dastmalchian, lead actress Shaw, and director Colin Schiffli about the story behind the film and what it took to produce this labor of love.
